********** SII International ALERT **********

Members of The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) have reported ongoing problems with registering for courses scheduled by Sensory Integration International (SII) which are subsequently not held, often with last minute or no cancellation notice. Although members have contacted SII for refunds, many registrants have not received a refund and have lost prepaid travel/hotel expenses.

As of June, 2007, SII has been ordered to cease doing business as part of litigation against the company by the California Attorney General. The case name is The People of the State of California ex rel. Bill Lockyer, Attorney General of the State of California v. Sensory Integration International et al. case no. BC356213 (Superior Court of the State of California for Los Angeles County). The attorney handling the case is Sonja Berndt. The case was filed last year following numerous complaints to the Better Business Bureau since l998.

Individuals who are owed a refund should send a letter to:

In addition, you may send a copy of the letter and documentation to support a refund to the California Attorney General’s office. Material can be submitted electronically to Martha.Gallardo@doj.ca.gov or mailed to:

Ms. Gallardo is the primary investigative auditor for this case.
